Kit Review : Masterbox “Ticket Home”

Masterbox has bought us many interesting figures and amongst their range are few kits that deal with the seldom see side of war ( at least in modelling ), that being the wounded after a battle. This is one of their earlier sets and covers just that, portraying a medic with two wounded men.

Coming in a small open ended box on a single small dark yellow sprue this is a very simple kit containing only 21 parts to make up the three figures. The detail is very good with very nice, if a little understated, folds in the clothes, and very nicely done individual faces, with the hair on one in particular being very well done. While the detail is good there are a few small areas that could use sharpening up and there is a small amount of cleanup required, with very small amounts of flash and some mould seams to remove.

The figures are an interesting mixed bag with one of the injured wearing the standard field uniform and long boots ( well, boot really as one foot is swathed in bandages ), one wears a Heer Panzer uniform with a bandaged head, while the third figure wears an SS M1942 Type Two camo smock with the foliage loops and ankle boots with gaiters. This third figure is depicted as being a medic but other than the lack of equipment and weapon there is nothing to identify him as such except for an armband moulded on his left arm.

No personal equipment is included other than two pouches shown on the belt of the helmeted figure, worn on the front. I suspect these are meant to be German leather Medic Pouches though if they are they are too thin and lack the strap detail. No weapons are included.

Assembly and painting instructions are provided on the reverse of the box giving the paint numbers for Vallejo, Tamiya, Lifecolour, Humbrol and Agama paints.

An interesting wee set, though I can’t see alot of call for the mixed uniforms other than in the aftermath of a major engagment, but they woul dlook the part used to show the German army in retreat towards the end of the war.
