AM Parts Review : Lion Roar Photo Etch Detail Set with Metal Barrel for Tamiya Char B1 Bis

Sometimes an average model needs to be made better, sometimes a good model doesn’t need to be made better but the addicted amongst us just have to make it better anyway. This photo etched detail set falls into the latter of those, being a set that makes an already good model an even better one, namely the Tamiya Char B1 Bis.

This set contains four medium sized and two small photo etched brass frets as well as two aluminium replacement barrels. The PE frets are in differing thicknesses depending on the intended use of the parts on each and all are very well made. All this comes in a sturdy small cardboard box together with the three pages of good, clear instructions.

This photo-etched detail set allows you to replace the kit fenders and their mounts so that each fender can be taken off or put back on individually. It also replaces the exhausts, their covers and their mounts, as well as all the hatch hinges and their handles. You also get replacement engine grilles, replacement aluminium barrels for both guns, replacement mounts and clamps for vehicle mounted eqipment and fine detailing for the cupola. Lastly there is a lovely Renault badge for the front and raised casting numbers for the axles.

The Tamiya Char B1 Bis is already a very nice kit, but this photo-etch set really sets it off providing just the parts that are really needed, which is a very nice feature compared to many PE sets which provide replacements for parts that don’t really need to be replaced resulting in half the PE parts never being used. In this set you’ll use it all. If you like the best from your models then this should be on the must have list if you’re building the Char B1 Bis.
