The Sonder Anhanger 51 Trailer, or Sd.Ah.51, was used as the base to carry the lightweigh 2cm FlaK 30 and FlaK 38 anti-aircraft guns as well as a 60cm Searchlight. It was also used to carry a basic box used to store the ammunition for the FlaK 30 and FlaK 38. These were seen towed behind anything mounting one of these guns.
This set is designed to upgrade an Sd.Ah. 51 trailer frame, such as the one that usually carries the 2cm single barreled FlaK 30 and FlaK 38, to an ammo trailer, or to replace the existing ammo box on kits like the Trumpeter Sd.Kfz. 7/1 or the Italeri Sd.Ah. 51 Ammo Trailer.
It contains the ammo box, the lid, a spade, an axe, a shovel and twenty-four magazine boxes ( each of these would hold two of the standard 2cm twenty round magazines ). There is also a small photo-etch fret with which to make the tool clamps and the box hinges and stay.
The moulded detail is very good, the ammo boxes look correct and are as close enough to the right scale measurements as to not matter. Clean-up is minimal with the main requirement being the removal of the pour plugs as is the nrom with resin kits and parts.
Even if you don’t want to replace the actual box and lid this set is worth it for the ammo cans alone as they look good and you get two dozen off them, which would fill out any 2cm FlaK diorama easily. Not to mention the PE fret of hinges and tool clamps. So well worth getting if you’re in the market to dress up an Sd.Ah. 51 or just a 2cm FlaK gun.
