With the plethora of German Staff Cars coming onto the market of late one of the things we now find ourselves needing are not just figure sets of officers, but figure sets of higher ranking officers. Tristar bought this set out before the staff cars arrived but it is still just the ticket.
This set consists of four figures, two senior officers, one armoured unit officer and one orderly, all dressed in Heer uniforms. The level of moulding is very good requiring only minimal cleanup of seams lines and in a very nice move that I’ve seldom seen in figure kits the footwear has all been moulded as separate parts which puts the seam lines down the front and back rather than down the sides. This makes it easier to remove as well as allowing you to position the feet at whatever angle takes your pleasure.
The officer in the greatcoat has a well moulded face and has one gloved hand holding the other glove. The other hand is intended to be holding a cigarette but you’ll need to use a small piece of stretched sprue to represent this. His coat is moulded in several separate parts, including the belt at the back, which gives it a great level of undercut detail.
The other officer is of a more portly build which is a very nice move away from the norm and includes a suitably pudgy face. He wears gloves and comes with a P38 holster.
The tank officer wears the traditional black leather uniform and peaked cap. He also wears gloves and his face is moulded so that he looks to be talking. He wears a Luger holster and his uniform includes the iron cross and armour assault badge, both of which are sharply moulded and nicely detailed.
The orderly wears the standard side cap and gloves, and comes with a Luger holster on the wide brown leather officer’s belt. He comes with a briefcase which has a moulded on handle that can be cut away if you want to position it in his hand, which is moulded with a handle in place ( so the handle in his hand will need to be cut away if you pose the briefcase on the ground ). He is shown with a folded map tucked under his arm but none is included so you’ll have to find your own.
As a nice little addition this set also includes two photo etched pairs of glasses which are the traditional round spectacles common in western Europe at the time.
No instructions are included, rather the assembly and painting guide is printed on the reverse of the box which is simple enough to follow.
This makes up into a great little set straight from the box with no additional work needed ( with the possible exception of needing to add the cigarette and a map ). The detailing is superb, in particular the greatcoat, with beautifully sculpted faces that convey individual expressions. Little bonuses like the PE glasses just top of what is already a very good kit.
