Kit Review : Dragon Sd.Kfz 250 Engine with Mechanics

These days with kits coming with opening this and that it would be nice if more of them had interiors and engines. This set helps address that with any Sd.Kfz 250 or variant. This is a slight older kit but quite a good offering as it comes with a full engine for an Sd.Kfz 250 as well as four figures, two tables and a few assorted tools.

Coming in a small tray and lid type box this kit contains four sprues moulded in light grey plastic. The mouldings are clean other than a few light mould seams., the instructions are clear and simple and the kit goes together without any issues.

There’s not really all that much to it. The engine once built can be either displayed as intended, out of the vehicle under repair, or used in an Sd.Kfz 250 ( it’s designed to fit the Dragon kit but will go into the Tamiya ones as well ) with the figures used elsewhere.

The figures being a bit older are tidy but a little lacking in detail to the uniforms, needing better creases and undercutting. The poses are also a little stiff and doll-like but for the four figures you get a total of seven sets of arms ( three sets are marked as not for use ) so they can be adapted to a number of other positions quite easily. The uniforms on three of the figures are all the winter issue reversible parkas limiting their locational use with the fourth figure being in overalls. No weapons are included other than three holstered sidearms.

You also get two tables and two folding chairs ( from the Communications Centre kit ) as well as a tool box, two engine stands, two oil tins, two oil cans, a wooden block, a crescent, two screwdrivers, a small sledgehammer, and five various sized spanners. There are also a number of other unused parts for the spares box that are intended for use in the Dragon 250 kit that the engine is taken from.

A great little set to make a diorama with or too add to an existing kit. A quick and simple build that looks good when made up, especially if you put a little extra effort into animating the figures.
