Early Trumpeter figure sets suffered from some truely attrocious boxart whilst the figures inside weren’t really that bad other than being a little short and thin and a bit soft on detail. This set addresses the former, but not the later. The boxart is very good now, but at an average of 48mm the figures are still too small scaling out at 168cm or 5’6″. So at least they look fine alongside Tamiya figures. But really it would be nice to see a few tall and stocky people sometime.
That aside the two sprues of grey moulded plastic containing four male and one female figure are cleanly moulded though the detail is still very soft with things like the creases in the clothes needing sharpening up ( and in places a lot more added ). The facial expressions are however good and the equipment is nicely done, with separate blanket rolls for two figures.
The second sprue contains a good set of personal equipment and weapons, including two PPsh 41 SMGs, Two Mosin Nagant rifles and a soviet PTRS-41 anti-tank rifle. The addition of the small dog is also a nice touch. One other handy inclusion is a soft styrene sprue with several Russian tanker helmets on it. These are hollow so can be put onto bare heads or hung off something.
Overall it’s not a terrible kit and it does have some nice features, but the soft detail on the uniforms and the shortness of the figures does let it down.
