Kit Review : Masterbox British Paratroopers ; Rigid Landing

Lately Masterbox has become known as the market leader in thinking outside the box when producing figure kitsets. Their figures are always thought of as a set rather than four figures together and this set is no different with the figures designed to interact well with one another.

This set of four figures portrays four British Paratroopers at Arnhem during Operation Market Garden in 1944. Two figures are intended to be medics, the other two injured soldiers, one of them still wearing the glider pilots hard hat and with his arm in a sling. The two medics wear the airborne red beret while the soldier with the broken leg is bareheaded and the standing medic appears to be handing him a cigarette.

The single sprue is moulded in dark yellow and the detail is very good with very nice folds in the clothes, individual faces and separate parts for some of the smock skirts, also the nicely detailed sling on the pilot and wound splint on the broken leg of the injured soldier on the ground. While the detail is sharp there is a small amount of cleanup required with very small amounts of flash and some mould seams to remove.

Equipment is limited to medic bags for the medics, a backpack for the injured soldier and holstered pistols for each of the medics and pilot. No other weapons or equipent is included and I do think a rifle or Sten for the injured soldier wouldn’t have gone amiss.

Assembly and painting instructions are provided on the reverse of the box giving the paint numbers for Vallejo, Tamiya, Lifecolour, Humbrol and Agama paints.

When assembled this makes for a very nice little set with good animation and good features. Although marketed as being at Arnhem I’m sure they would equally be at home in the D-Day landings and should go well with Masterbox’s Horsa Glider once it is released.
